I'm something of a sucker for the Mythos, particularly when it's only obliquely referenced. And the juxtaposition of a sort of coming-of-age thing with cosmic horror is bizarre but wonderful. I've read it a few times now, though, and I must say that this last page is the best conclusion I could ever imagine it having. This story inspires me in so many ways. Also it is my somewhat guilty pleasure to inform you that the thing that still makes me smile about this page is the Necronomicon-esque sigil that the twins are drawing near the end.
