I haven’t read any of your comics for a while, this one was a breath of fresh air. Thank you 🙂
Did he have a “Sacher cake” piece? And is his music completely lost?
Was the misspelling of “Cyrillic” intentional?
No, it was a mistake. Now it’s fixed. Thanks.
Fantastic, as always. I love the song ideas!
One nitpick, though: I think the panel composition is a little bit clunky in the bottom four. Could be too close to symmetrical, dividing lines too thick, or the colors too harshly light compared to the rest of the piece, which otherwise meshes well with the black background. I’m not sure precisely what it is, but something feels off.
I agree. My girlfriend noticed certain clunkyness in the text boxes that I tried to fix but there’s still a somewhat weird composition, perhaps more notorius because of the black background.
Hey… What sorcery is this? The non-sequitur final panel actually worked! For a second there, clear as day, the creamy taste of lemon…
This is unquestionably my favorite of your works. They’re all simply fantastic, but this one is somehow different. You should try another like this (whatever “like this one, but different from the others” actually means) and see where that takes you.
I look forward to more. How frequently do you plan to update?
I don’t have a schedule, i’m afraid. Lately I have been updating slowly, near monthly. I’ve considered updating regularly with shorter pieces but i’m not entirely convinced of that yet. So far, working without deadlines has allowed me to post the comics when i’m reasonably satisfied with the results (though now that I think about it, there are several comics that i’m not so fond of). On the other hand, regularity seems to be essential to many readers. I’d appreciate any further input on this issue.
Thanks for your comments.
Being able to release solid pieces of work like the one above on a monthly basis is an achievement to be sure although no-one would complain about releases of increased frequency. Perhaps larger monthly (regular) releases like above with smaller ones (irregular?) interspersed in between whenever you feel, if indeed you feel the need to create more…
Well done by the way.
I am a composer and I call what I do “Sonic Modelling” – right now I am working on coffee. I love the comic. I can see I need lemon pie to go with the coffee.
Was the misspelling of “Pupil” intentional?
It was a misspelling, thanks.
I am a composer of modern “art music” and this comic struck me as a profound comment on the nature of aesthetic taste in the public evaluation of our work, as a community, and how we are remembered by posterity. I will, of course, be sharing it with all my colleagues… 🙂
This raises a world of questions, of course.
Could the composer express something he had not experienced? (The more abstract examples seem to indicate this.) If not, could we reconstruct a life from these experience-composition? If the life involved such experiences as the later compositions, what would that imply about the person? Could we superimpose these sensations? Could absolutely abstract thoughts and emotions be expressed? Could we arrange them geometrically or spatially, or across time, into a concerted symphony? Could we conceive of a medium of art more perfect than such a thing? It would certainly overwhelm all other forms of story-based art. Could it…
Of such things is an entirely new mode made. It’s rather cruel of you to pull over it all a veil of elusiveness, though of course it provides the final touch.
Lovely shades of Borges.
This is breathtaking and life-changing.
Your ‘comics’ are just amazing. They’re like a goal I’ve always wanted to reach, but never known was there. Thank you
Thanks to all of you for the kind, encouraging or insightful comments this comic seems to get. I’m very grateful of this interaction.
House of Leaves reference? I’m talking about the last panel. :3
